No Nuclear Power(1)

I am against nuclear power generation. It is true that nuclear electricity generation releases much less carbon dioxide than thermal one, but solar power also emits little. This clean electric generating system using solar energy rather does never discharge carbon dioxide and other harmful gases into the air during the production of electricity. Nuclear power is not absolutely necessary for decreasing the emission of carbonic anhydride. Moreover, atomic power generation is dangerous because it is quite difficult to ensure the safety of nuclear reactors. Actually, even though most nuclear experts had believed it was absolutely safe, the reactor meltdown accident happened soon after the earthquake on March 11. Reactor coolant water was lost, causing a meltdown of bare uranium fuel and finally, the hydrogen explosion in two reactor buildings. This is the worst-case scenario to be avoided first, but it happened despite of the experts’ complete confidence in the safety of nuclear power plants in Japan. Lastly, a proper way of permanent disposal of high-level radioactive waste, which is produced after the generation of electricity, has not discovered yet. High-level nuclear waste contains radioactive materials venting very strong radiation and having an extremely long half-life, so at present many countries just take the way of waiting until the materials do not need special treatment as radiological substances. For these reasons, I would never like to agree with the use of atomic energy for the generation of electricity.

The Most Impressive Thing in Summer Vacation(7)

I took an employment exam for an English teacher in the last summer vacation. At the beginning of the examination, I had to deliver a mock lesson of English for five minutes to demonstrate that I can be a good English teacher. However, I had never taught English to many students before, so I was very nervous and worried about my performance. In order to do my best in such a situation, I mainly paid attention to three things in my demo lesson.

The first one was to consider how to impress the interviewers. I tried to speak loudly, clearly and slowly in a relaxed way. Also, I kept smiling, which I thought was the most important. At the same time, I looked around the room during my demo session as if students were sitting in front of me and taking my class.

I paid careful attention, moreover, to organize the lesson well. If I become an English teacher, I would like students to be exposed to English as much as possible. To put the idea into practice in the mock lesson, I gave many easy instructions in English, such as “Open your books to page,” or “Any questions?”

Lastly, I made some attempts for imaginary students to enjoy learning. One of these attempts was singing a song related to the topic of the lesson. Even though it was an employment test, I sang “Days of the Week Song” instead of just helping the fictitious students to learn the names of days in English.

I believe I passed the exam thanks to these 3 aspects which I focused on in my demo lesson.

I Love My Home(“Mie Prefecture is Awesome!”)(3)

Mie prefecture, my old home is one of my favorite places. I live away from home, so when I take the first step onto the platform at my stop in a long time, I feel a sudden rush of excitement and relief. On returning home, I really look forward to eating my mother’s special cooking and having a chat with my family. Spending time with my family really makes me relaxed. Actually, when I was home for my three-week teaching practice in my old junior high school, I talked over and over with my mother. It was the first time after my entrance into university to stay with my family for such a long time. Naturally, I enjoyed it a lot.

My Brother and Myself(2)

My younger brother and I have many similarities and differences. For example, we are both shorter than the average height of similar age. He is 20 years old and maybe around 164 centimeters tall. I am 23 years old and 151 centimeters tall. We are also similar in suffering from hay fever from a very young age. We both live alone in Kansai away from home. However, we are different because he takes care of his appearance, regularly buying some stylish stuff, while I am not interested in my appearance so much. Another difference is that he is so active that he has tried various things which he found interesting. On the other hand, I am so conservative that I have let many chances go by, just looking enviously at others who try what they want to do. Also, he is a coffee-drinker, but I am not a big fan of coffee and would rather like tea to coffee. Even though we have differences, we both love family so much and our family is very close.

Welcoming Massage

To students who are starting to take this class, I will give some advice. You should be prepared to spend the longest time ever in your English composition. I had a hard time of it too. However, as you do many assignments, you will find this class actually very helpful for improvement in your English skills. Just believe your teacher and complete your assignments given by him. I wish you good luck!

Must-Have Items for Teachers(An essay version of “What is a Good Teacher?”)

From May 27 to June 14, I taught at my old junior high school as a practice teacher and I saw with my own eyes how on-site teachers worked. They were always too busy, but in spite of the tight schedule, they seemed to be happy with students. Through this practice teaching for 3 weeks, I found out three qualities which are essential for teachers.

What is needed for teachers first is the ability to handle work effectively. Teachers manage tons of tasks every day, so they never have enough time to take a long time and do each of the tasks carefully. The pressure of work forces them to make the most of their time. For the efficient use of the limited time, they are required to judge which work to do first.

Next, excellent educators always love teaching. Teachers try to make a class as simple and intelligible as possible to students, and help them get interested and curious in further learning. To accomplish such a purpose, they do spend a lot of time learning many different teaching skills; for example, effective ways of writing on blackboard, explaining, asking questions and so on. They also make efforts to encourage students to use their heads in class as much as possible. They see it equally important to make all class members participate, instead of being passive in classes. In this way, teachers always do their very best to find out how they can offer the best lessons to students.

Last, but not least schoolteachers should love children. This is the most basic quality for teachers because they are with children for quite a while at school. People who do not like children will give up teaching in 3 days. Teacher-student relationships surely have influence on the quality of classes and the depth of students’ understanding of what they have learned in the class. Actually, at my old school where I had spent 3 weeks practice-teaching until a few weeks ago, every teacher was communicating with students with his/her starry eyes with the greatest fondness.

Today, the role school plays in society is becoming bigger and bigger. It has to provide not only education but also discipline which should be done by families. Also, to protect children from bullying or even any crime, school has to collaborate with parents and the local community, and share information about children. With the current trend in education, teachers are getting busier covering a broad range of work. Getting overwhelmed with a full schedule, it is too much hard to keep working for teachers who do not develop operative skill, and show little enthusiasm for teaching with lack of affection for children.

What is a Good Teacher?(7)

Good teachers are those who develop operative skill, and like to teach, and have affection for children. What is needed for teachers first is the ability to handle work effectively because they manage tons of tasks each day. They never have enough time, which forces them to make the most of their time. For the efficient use of the limited time, they are required to judge which work to do first. Next, excellent educators love teaching.
